War always brings misery. When the Americans rampaged in the Philippines in the first years of 1900, there were an estimated 20,000 Filipino soldiers who died and 200,000 civilian casualties. While there were only over 4,000 American soldiers casualties, fast-forward to 1940s because of the presence of the Americans in the Philippines, the Japanese invaded the archipelago. However, there were specific innovations brought by war. For instance, linear programming heavily used in business today was developed during WWII. The design of linear programming is to maximize the efficiency of resources which was the primordial priority of the US fighting in Europe and the Pacific. Programming in the military jargon pertains to efficiently planning schedules or allocating resources.
Presently, the business managers use linear programming to efficiently schedule and allocate resources, material, men and time. Last February 8, 2020, several MBA students voluntarily attend the Linear Programming workshop that uses POM software. They received certificates for their participation.
